The Somnolescent Dragon specializes in ultrawide 21:9 wallpapers — but these are meant for all to enjoy, regardless of what screen you're sitting in front of. If your monitor isn't ultrawide, here's how to make any wallpaper work beautifully for you.
Get the most from your collection
Set up a desktop slideshow
The Somnolescent Dragon is a living gallery — collections grow, retire, and rotate regularly. Rather than linking directly to images, we recommend downloading the ones you love into a dedicated folder and setting up a slideshow. That way your desktop stays fresh, the art is yours to keep, and the Dragon can keep curating without anyone's desktop going dark when a collection changes.
On Windows:
Download your favorites into a single folder — something like Dragon Wallpapers. Right-click your desktop and choose Personalize. Under Background, select Slideshow and browse to your folder. Set your interval — the Dragon personally recommends 10 minutes. Long enough to enjoy, short enough to keep things interesting.
On Mac:
Download your favorites into a folder. Open System Settings → Wallpaper. Click Add Folder and select it. Enable Rotate Automatically and set your preferred interval. Same idea — the Dragon still recommends 10 minutes.
Option 1 — Already on your computer
Crop with Microsoft Paint
If you're on Windows, you already have everything you need. Because our wallpapers are wider than a standard screen, the right move is to crop rather than resize — cropping trims the sides to fit your screen perfectly while keeping the image looking exactly as intended. Resizing would squish everything horizontally and nobody wants that.
Open the wallpaper in Paint, select the Crop tool, and drag to select the portion you want to keep — center usually works best. Save the result and set it as your desktop background. Simple, free, no downloads required.
Not sure what your screen resolution is? Right-click your desktop, choose Display settings, and look for the Resolution option — that tells you exactly how wide your crop needs to be.
